Who we are

Based in the northern suburbs of Brisbane, sunny Queensland, the husband-and-wife duo have crafted a duel-perspective action-adventure set in a post-apocalyptic world.

Starting from a random thought while watching The Expanse, Lee began writing what would later be called draft zero. A publisher sighted the manuscript and provided honest feedback. He wrote on the only piece of paper he had, the front cover.

After a few months of rewriting the first two chapters, Lee asked Amanda if she would like to be a co-author. Afternoons would lead to long walks discussing characters and events like they were real and writing about what happened after dinner.

Together, they fueled their talents with great coffee and Hendricks Gin, writing the story of a young girl growing up in an uncertain world during a nuclear winter.

Critique groups helped to refine the writing style of what eventually became the published story of Burn the Sky.

A short story

There are always some mistakes that lead to short stories. This is what happened-

The publisher mentioned above was what is called a hybrid publisher. You pay money, and you get your book printed. During the first royalties distribution, a letter seemed to change the signed contract stating that over 100 books in a 3-month period had to be sold before we received any money.

Long story short, there is no such thing as a hybrid publisher; they will take your money and give you their stated services and a few copies of your book. Fivver, Kindle, and Ingram Spark can do what you’re after at a reasonable price. A decent editor should be the largest expense in having your book published.

Researching ‘vanity press’ or ‘predatory publishing’ would have provided all the answers before signing the contract.

With fresh covers and new maps, Burn the Sky will be self-published shortly, and a new tab along the top of this site will take you to purchasing. So keep an eye out.
